Hold Up!

Websolr indices can be provisioned in a couple of different ways. These instructions are for users who have added the Websolr resource via Manifold. If you are a or Heroku customer and are adding Websolr to your app, then you will not need these instructions. Instead, check out:

Creating a Solr Index

To get started, sign up or sign in to your account. In your main dashboard, click on "Add new resource" to add a search resource to your account:

From the Resources menu, click on the "All Services" link to show all available filters. Click on "Search" to see the available search resources:

This should narrow down the list to a set of search engine products, including Websolr. Click on the "Try Free" button to provision a new Websolr Solr index:

This will take you to a list of available plans for your new index:

Each plan has a different set of available options, so read carefully and pick the plan that's right for you. You can also email us with any questions you may have.

Once you have selected a plan, scroll down to see a dropdown list of available regions. This will offer a list of geographic regions in which your index can be provisioned. You'll want to pick a region that is as close to your project as possible to minimize latency.

Finally, you can add the resource to a project (if you have one), and give it a name. These last steps are optional. If you don't provide a name for the index, Manifold will create one for you.

Click on "Create Websolr Resource" to spin up your new Websolr Solr Index.

Accessing Your Solr Index

Once the new resource has been provisioned, you should see a page like this:

From here, you are able to update your index's plan, access the index dashboard, and destroy the resource altogether. To verify that your index is up and running, scroll down to the Credentials section:

Click on the "Show credentials" button to see the secret URL to your index. It will look something like this:

This is a special, private URL to your Solr index. You can verify that your Solr index is up and running by opening the URL in a browser or terminal and appending /select to the end. For example:

# The wt=json and indent=true parameters are not required, but enhance readability: curl -s "" {    "responseHeader":{      "status":0,      "QTime":0},    "response":{"numFound":0,"start":0,"docs":[]    }}

The URL (without the "/select" endpoint) is what your application will need to connect to Solr.

Next steps
